Juna Akhada  is the oldest and largest Akhada among the 13 recognized Akharas of Sanatan Dharma. With roots going back over 2000 years and formal organization since the time of Adi Shankaracharya, Juna Akhada holds a central place in the spiritual and religious fabric of India.

To uphold its responsibilities in an organized and lawful manner, the Akhada operates through a registered charitable trust, which manages its religious, educational, and philanthropic activities. The trust is committed to the following key objectives:

  1. Protection and Propagation of Sanatan Dharma
    Upholding the spiritual traditions of Hinduism through Vedic rituals, public teachings, and initiation of sannyasis (monks).

  2. Organization of Kumbh Melas & Religious Events
    Managing Shahi Snan processions and participation in Maha Kumbh, Ardh Kumbh, and other religious gatherings.

  3. Establishment of Educational Institutions
    Running Vedic schools (Pathshalas), Sanskrit universities, and training centers for Brahmacharis and Sannyasis.

  4. Philanthropy & Public Welfare

    • Free medical camps

    • Gaushalas (cow protection)

    • Disaster relief (floods, earthquakes, pandemics)

    • Food distribution (Annadaan)

    • Ashram stay for pilgrims and saints

  5. Preservation of Temples, Ashrams, and Heritage Sites
    Maintenance, restoration, and management of religious and historical places under Juna Akhada’s domain.


Governance Structure

The Akhada follows a spiritual democratic structure guided by centuries-old traditions and modern statutory norms.

1. Acharya Mahamandaleshwar

  • Supreme spiritual head of the Akhada

  • Directs spiritual decisions, initiations, and dharmic direction

  • Current Acharya Mahamandaleshwar: Swami Avdheshanand Giri Ji Maharaj

2. Mahamandaleshwar Council 

  • Composed of senior sannyasis appointed through Akhara rituals

  • Authority on religious discipline, sannyas diksha, and inter-akhara relations

3. Trust Board
